PANORAMA

plastic surgery clinic

The Panorama Plastic Surgery Clinic uses two different methods of sedation: local anaesthesia with or without conscious sedation and general anaesthesia. A brief overview of local anaesthesia and conscious sedation will give you a clear understanding of what you can expect when you decide to undergo a procedure at the Clinic.

Local anaesthesia

This method is used for all procedures, whether conscious sedation is given or not. It consists of two components: a shorter acting local anaesthetic that takes immediate effect and a longer acting anaesthetic that lasts a few hours and provides pain relief in the immediate post-operative period. This can be administered in small amounts or large volumes as for liposuction. It is totally safe.

A vaso-constrictive agent is added to the local anaesthetic to minimise bleeding during the operation.

Conscious sedation

Conscious sedation is a high-quality form of sedation given by an anaesthetist that can replace general anaesthesia for some surgical procedures. Many procedures previously done in hospital theatres under general anaesthesia can now be performed at the Panorama Plastic Surgery Clinic where costs are considerably lower.

With this method you will receive an intravenous infusion together with drugs that will allay your fear, provide pain relief and sedate you to a level similar to being asleep, yet conscious throughout the procedure.
